1. The agreement
These terms are the agreement between Olee AI (Pvt) Ltd (“we”, “us”) and the firm or person using LawPal (“you”). Creating an account means accepting them, and we record which version you accepted and when. If you accept for a practice, you confirm that you may bind it.
2. Information, not advice
LawPal gives legal information, not legal advice. Automated output, including anything written by AI, can be wrong, and nothing in LawPal checks whether a judgment is still good law. Verify against the authoritative text, and take advice from an Attorney-at-Law, before relying on it.
LawPal is a research, record-keeping and drafting tool. Nothing it produces is legal advice, an opinion or a prediction of an outcome. Using LawPal does not create a lawyer and client relationship between you and us, or between you and anyone else. Only an Attorney-at-Law may advise on Sri Lankan law, and Olee AI (Pvt) Ltd is not one.
3. What LawPal never does
- It never files or serves. No part of LawPal lodges a document with a court, serves a party or sends a notice on your behalf. A finished draft is ready for a person to take to the registry.
- Deadline clocks are arithmetic only. A clock counts from a date you entered, using a period you chose, and shows the rule it applied. It is a reminder, not an opinion on whether an appeal lies or is in time. You confirm every date, and only you can check that the date you entered is right.
4. Your account
- You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for the people you invite into your workspace.
- One account is one person. Keep your password to yourself; two-factor authentication is available to everyone, and your firm may require it.
- Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into your account.
- You must be 18 or over to hold an account.
5. What you may not do
- Copy the library in bulk, scrape it, or use automated means to extract it. Reading it for your own work is the purpose; taking it is not.
- Resell, rent out or provide LawPal to anyone outside your practice as if it were your own.
- Upload material you have no right to hold.
- Try to reach another firm's workspace, or probe LawPal for a way in. If you find one, tell us.
- Use LawPal for anything unlawful.
6. Prices and metering
Plans are billed monthly in Sri Lankan rupees, and prices are on the pricing page. AI work is metered in tokens from the firm's balance, and the price of an action is shown before you start it.
- A document is charged on the pages actually produced, never on an estimate made beforehand.
- Work that fails is not charged, and a charge for work LawPal failed to do is put back.
- If the balance runs out, seats stay, metered work stops and nothing is deleted.
- We give at least 30 days' notice by email to the firm's admins before a price change applies to you. A month already paid for is not affected.
Refunds are set out in the refund policy.
7. Your material stays yours
Everything you upload or write, including documents, notes, matters and drafts, remains yours. You give us only the permission we need to run LawPal for you: to store it, index it and process it to answer your own firm's questions. It is never used to answer another firm's question.
A firm admin can export everything the firm holds at any time. What we hold and who processes it is in the privacy policy.
These clauses apply to the library of judgments and Acts only
8. The case-law library
The library holds judgments of the Sri Lankan courts and Acts of Parliament as they were delivered or passed. Under section 8(b) of the Intellectual Property Act, No. 36 of 2003, official texts of a legislative, administrative or legal nature are not protected by copyright, which is what permits them to be reproduced. Where a judgment came from a law report, the publisher's added material is removed and only the court's text is kept.
We do not promise that the library is complete or current. A judgment may be missing, and an Act may be held in a form a later amendment has changed. Check the official text before relying on it. Nothing in LawPal checks whether a judgment is still good law.
A person named in a judgment can ask for it to be removed or corrected, without an account, on the removal requests page.
9. Our software
LawPal's software, interface and templates are ours, and nothing here transfers them to you. The documents you produce from the templates are yours to use in your practice.
10. Availability
We work to keep LawPal available, but we do not promise any uptime figure. We may take it down for maintenance, and parts of LawPal depend on other providers, listed in the privacy policy; when one of them is down, that part of LawPal is down.
11. Liability
We run LawPal with reasonable care. We are not responsible for the professional consequences of what is done with its output: a date nobody checked, an authority cited without being read, or advice given on the strength of a search.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business or indirect loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Ending the agreement
- You can stop at any time by cancelling the plan or closing the account. A paid month runs to its end.
- We can end the agreement on 30 days' notice. If we do, other than for a breach of clause 5, we refund the unused part of anything you prepaid, pro rata.
- We can suspend an account used in breach of clause 5, and we will say why.
- After an account closes, its export stays available for 30 days. Then the firm's data is deleted, except the records the law requires us to keep.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we email the firm's admins, and publish the new version here with the date it takes effect.
14. Law and courts
This agreement is governed by the law of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Colombo have jurisdiction. Before either of us goes to court, we try to settle it by talking: write to info@lawpal.lk.
